A case study in emergency locksmith service and professional ethics
Denton NE5, Tyne and Wear—As a professional locksmith in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, I've seen many emergency situations, but this recent call highlighted why trust and ethics are my top priorities in locksmith work.
The Emergency Call

It was a quiet Sunday evening when I received an urgent call from a landlord in Denton. Her tenant needed immediate assistance with a door lock issue. As I asked more questions about the situation, the story unfolded in a surprising and concerning way.
The landlord explained that another Newcastle locksmith had visited the property on Friday to install a lock. However, that same locksmith had returned earlier on Sunday and removed the lock they had previously installed, leaving the door completely unsecured. This explained the urgent need to get this sorted immediately, as the door lacked any lock or mechanism.
Initial Assessment

Upon arrival at the property, I expected to find a door missing its centre case or perhaps lacking a cylinder. To my surprise, I discovered the entire strip was missing. Nothing was in the door – no lock, strip, nothing. The door couldn't close properly or provide any security whatsoever.
This situation called for new gear and an immediate solution to ensure the tenant's safety and security.
Technical Solution
After assessing the door, I implemented both an immediate and long-term solution:
Emergency Overnight Security: I installed an overnight lock on the door. This emergency mechanism consists of just the centre case without anything above or below it but provides essential security while waiting for the proper components.
Temporary Access Solution: I also fitted what would become their new lock, allowing them to operate the overnight mechanism until the permanent installation could be completed.
Permanent Replacement Ordered: Thanks to the brand visible on the door keep (SAFEWARE), I could order the correct strip for next-day delivery. While I carry centre cases for this somewhat familiar brand, I needed the complete strip for proper repair.
I returned with the new strip and fitted it on the door the following day. The installation was completed efficiently, leaving the door secure and functioning as it should always have been: complete and free of any issues.
The Importance of Ethical Locksmith Services

Unfortunately, not every locksmith in Newcastle offers honest services. Whatever it may say on a locksmith's van, front door, uniform or landing page, trust between tradespeople and their customers should not be taken for granted.
I urge every customer to hold us accountable because not all professionals maintain the same level of integrity. The previous locksmith did not act professionally, and it's a shame to see this kind of behaviour from another Newcastle locksmith.
This incident highlights one of the reasons AD Locksmithing exists: to raise awareness that not every locksmith is perfect and to empower people with the knowledge and education to make informed decisions.
